Each higher education institution, by signing the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education, commits to ensuring equal access and opportunities to participants from all backgrounds. Therefore, students and staff with physical, mental or health related conditions can benefit from the support services that the receiving institution offers to its local students and staff.

According to Erasmus+ Programme Guide, a person with special needs is defined as potential participant whose individual physical, mental or health-related condition is such that their participation in the mobility activity would not be possible without extra financial support.
What kind of special needs could be granted?
Areas that could be eligible for Erasmus+ Funds for Students and Staff support linked to your Erasmus+ mobility, according to individual needs, include but are not limited to:
- Additional costs for adapted rooms
- Adapted accommodation
- Travel assistance
- Medical attendance
- Supportive equipment
- Adaption of learning materials
- An accompanying person
How to apply?
When your Erasmus+ grant application is accepted then you can apply for the second grant, a special needs grant, which will cover the extra costs associated with your extra expenses.
Ask at the International Relations Office or Erasmus+ Coordinator at your higher education institution or equivalents to help you with Erasmus+ special needs support application form (see below on this page).
For this application you are requested to submit a quotation of expenses, cost estimation (for costs associated with your special needs) and a medical certificate, etc. This form should be filled accurately, signed and all additional documents must be submitted together with the application form.
